Gábor Hojtsy (one of the Drupal 6 committers and the person behind the localization server module for Drupal) has added today the Greek language in the official drupal.org l10n server, which is currently in beta testing.

Fellow Greek users, if you are interested in contributing with Greek translations, either for Drupal or for contributed modules, you are free to join at http://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/el. Login with your drupal.org account, join the group and start translating!

Currently, all translations are added as suggestions, which are moderated by the group's moderators (which is currently me, but I am about to add at least one more person). If you already have a translation in gettext format (.po file), you can simply import it.

Let's hope once Drupal 7 hits the streets, Greek users will have the ability to work in their native language.

Είμαι ο μόνος που βλέπει στις ειδήσεις, όπως αυτή τη στιγμή, τις προεκλογικές ανοιχτές συγκεντρώσεις των αρχηγών των κομμάτων και αηδιάζει...;

Ο πρωθυπουργός της χώρας μόλις προκήρυξε πρόωρες εκλογές, μόλις 2 χρόνια κι ένα μήνα από τις προηγούμενες. Δείγματα των καιρών. Γκάλοπ (που έτυχε να βλέπω στον Αντέννα) δείχνει το ΠΑΣΟΚ 31% και κάτι, ΝΔ 25% και κάτι. Όλα αυτά μου λένε ότι ο κόσμος έχει βαρεθεί τους πολιτικούς και απελπισμένα ψάχνει τον κάποιον που ίσως να κάνει τη διαφορά, να κάνει αυτό τον έρμο τόπο να πάει μπροστά.

There are times that you want to store IPv4 addresses in MySQL (IPv6 has still some way to go). A quick and dirty solution is to store the addresses in a varchar(15) column, but this solution exhibits the problem of sorting the addresses. For example, 10.3.8.9 comes first compared to 10.240.8.9, while the opposite should apply. Of course, you can always splits the octets and sort them individually or generate a unique integer for each IP address, but this involves a bit of coding.

It's been a couple of days that I've discovered that MySQL provides two functions for the purpose I describe above. INET_ATON() accepts an IP address and returns an integer, while INET_NTOA() does exactly the opposite.

So, what's the deal? You can sort rows by an IP address. Sorting by IP addresses surely is not what you need every day, but when this functionality is necessary, these two functions come handy. So:

So, store your IP addresses as integers, sort them as you see fit and display them right. This of course is MySQL specific, but MySQL is widely used for a range of web applications.

Κάτι τέτοια διαβάζω και χαίρομαι που ζω σε μια τέτοια καταπληκτική χώρα:

Για πέντε εβδομάδες έκλεισε το Ωνάσειο και μαζί του το μοναδικό τμήμα μεταμοσχεύσεων καρδιάς στην χώρα μας. Συνέπεια των «διακοπών» των γιατρών της κλινικής ήταν να χαθούν πέντε δότες και τα μοσχεύματα τους να οδηγηθούν στο εξωτερικό.

Σύμφωνα με στοιχεία του Εθνικού Οργανισμού Μεταμοσχεύσεων, που δημοσιεύει η εφημερίδα «Ο Κόσμος του Επενδυτή», από τις 17 Ιουλίου έως τις 3 Αυγούστου απορρίφθηκαν από το Ωνάσειο συνολικά πέντε δότες και τα μοσχεύματα τους.Δύο καδιές και τέσσερις πνεύμονες στάλθηκαν στο εξωτερικό, αφήνοντας 25 εγγεγραμμένους ασθενείς σε λίστα αναμονής.

Αν δεν προλάβει (μακάρι να μη γίνει κάτι τέτοιο ποτέ και να βρεθεί και πάλι σύντομα μόσχευμα) κάποιος από τα άτομα που είναι στη λίστα και φύγει από το μάταιο αυτό κόσμο, ας πουν στην οικογένειά του οι του Ωνάσειου «ξέρετε, είχαμε πάει διακοπές, να μη χάσουμε και τα μπάνια μας».

According to BBC News, Microsoft will support Internet Explorer 6 until 2014... At first this seems like a joke, but they are actually serious.

I suggest extending the maintenance period to 2050. I am pretty sure a number of people will still use it that time. It will be fun for developers to have to maintain this piece of shit...

This seems to come after the $290 millions fine to Microsoft for violating an XML patent. That's nice.
